New York Individual Insurance Policy Regulations include:
- Insurance companies are not allowed to reject applicants for individual insurance policies.
- HMOs must provide a standardized plan so that you can compare pricing.
- Policies offer community rating where premiums are not affected by age, gender, or your overall health.
- Policies can exclude pre-existing conditions, or conditions that occurred within the six months prior to issuing a policy, for one year.

Family Aid Plus is available to adults with qualified incomes and assets between 19 to 64 years old. Coverage includes hospitalization, prescription drugs, and doctor visits. Healthy NY is available to those who are employed or have a spouse employed and are not covered by healthcare insurance and have qualified incomes. There are several packages from which to choose. Deductibles and copays apply.
Family Health Plus is available to those who do not have health insurance, but who make too much money to be eligible for Medicaid. Services include primary care and hospitalization. Children Health Plus has two plans to cover children and young adults under the age of 19 who come from qualified, low income families.
