New Jersey’s Individual Insurance Policy Regulations include
- Insurance companies that offer individual policies are not allowed to refuse to issue you a policy because of any health or age factors.
- Open enrollment is held every year in October.
- Insurance companies must offer standard comprehensive policies as well as the Basic Plan and Essential Plan, which does not offer all of the benefits of comprehensive policies.
- Students may be able to continued to be covered under you policy until the age of 23.
- Insurance companies may be able to exclude pre-existing conditions, or conditions which occurred during six months prior to when the policy begins, for a twelve month period.
- Your insurance policy cannot be canceled in the event that you get ill.
New Jersey FamilyCare offers assistance to children from qualified low income families with their healthcare needs. In some cases, parents or guardians may also qualify. Premiums and copays, if any, are based on income. Services include hospitalization, doctor visits, and prescription drugs.
