Mississippi’s Individual Insurance Policy Regulations include:
- In Mississippi, insurance companies are allowed to turn down a request for an individual policy.
- Newborns are covered for 31 days under their parents’ policy.
- Disabled children may be able to continue to be covered under their parents’ policy after they reach majority if he or she is unable to take of himself or herself.
- Insurance companies can exclude a pre-existing condition, or a condition that occurred in the twelve months prior to receiving an individual policy, permanently if they choose. The insurance company may also choose to limit the exclusion to one year.
- Policies can only be canceled for non-payment of premiums. However, premiums can increase on a yearly basis.

The Mississippi Comprehensive Health Insurance Risk Pool Association helps those who cannot get individual health insurance policies coverage. Coverage includes doctor visits, prescription drugs, and hospital services. Members must pay coinsurance and premiums.
The Children’s Medical Program offers children and young adults under 20 years old who have a disabling condition such as cerebral palsy congenital heart problems which require surgery, and spina bifida, may be eligible for services including pediatric specialty care if their family meets certain financial requirements.
