Iowa Health Insurance

Unfortunately for many of the uninsured residents in Iowa, the level of state regulation is far lesser than in other states. It other words where some individuals may be covered elsewhere, in Ioa the carriers have a fair amount more leverage. In Iowa, insurance companies are allowed to permanently exclude a pre-existing condition from coverage.  Pre-existing conditions are defined as any condition that occurred within five years of obtaining a new individual policy.

Hawk-i is a healthcare program that is geared towards children in low income families.  Services for children under 19 include doctor visits, well child visits, outpatient hospital services, and emergency care.  In addition, prescription drugs, dental care, and chiropractic care are among the many services covered. In order to qualify, children must be under 19 years old and must not be covered by an insurance plan.   Eligibility is based on earned income less 20% and the number of members in a family.  The maximum amount that qualified members have to pay is $10 per month per child or $20 per month for two or more children.

If you have been denied health care coverage, you might qualify for the Health Insurance Plan of Iowa, or HIPIOWA. In order to qualify, you must be a state resident. There are several ways to qualify for this program, including being rejected for coverage within the past nine months, a reduction in benefits for a condition, or insurance policy cancellation for any reason other than non-payment.  Premium rates are based on the plan and deductible that you choose.
